The AVMA Quarterly Meeting took place in August, with ACVIM VSOC Representative Dr. Jane Sykes and ACVIM CEO Shannon Carter attending. Highlights of the meeting discussion include:
- Opportunities for promotion of specialty veterinary medicine to AVMA members and the general public, including profiles of specialists.
- Approval by the AVMA Board to create a Specialist Shortage in Academia Task Force to consider the issue and identify potential solutions.
- Discussion of an article by the National Academy of Medicine exploring the effects of AI in healthcare and biomedical science and the absence of veterinary medicine within that article. VSOC approved a motion for a Chair-to-Chair letter requesting contact with the authors to encourage the inclusion of veterinary medicine in future discussions.
We invite you to review the meeting minutes here for more information and to reach out to Jane Sykes or Shannon Carter if you would like the VSOC to discuss or review a specific topic. The next Quarterly VSOC meeting will take place in November.
