"I believe you would be hard-pressed to find another member of [the] ACVIM who has served on as diverse a number of committees and accepted roles on some of the most time-consuming, thankless and challenging committees. [But] for Dr. Ware, service is not limited to ACVIM. You can see by her committee responsibilities at Iowa State University and her outside service that she is dedicated to giving back not only to her professional organizations but to her University and her community."
- Dr. Matthew W. Miller
Dr. Wendy Ware has been a trailblazer in Veterinary Cardiology and a leader in the ACVIM since becoming Board-certified in 1986. Her record of service to the ACVIM is extensive, having served on over 15 committees and task forces, including her time as Chair of the Cardiology Examination Committee and the Cardiology Forum Subcommittee. Dr. Ware's service culminated in her election to the Board of Regents, in which she served as Vice President, President-Elect, President and Chair. In addition to her extensive record of service to the College, Dr. Ware is highly-regarded for her career at Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, where she was the sole cardiologist for many years. Dr. Ware is credited with single-handedly educating generations of veterinary students in cardiology and making the subject more accessible through her writing, particularly with the publication of her textbook Cardiovascular Disease in Small Animal Medicine. Dr. Ware's lifetime of service continues to impact the veterinary specialty profession, making her a deserving recipient of the ACVIM Lee & Inge Pyle Award.
