Raelene M. Wouda, BVSc, DACVIM (Oncology), MANZCVS

Veterinary Oncologist, Veterinary Specialist Services of Queensland

"For a young Diplomate, this year’s recipients commitment to volunteering and contribution to our organization is remarkable... she [brings] a deep sense of understanding of the ACVIM’s history and passion for what the ACVIM represents to her work, an understanding that she got from her mentors and a passion that arose from within. "

- Dr. William R. Fenner

Since becoming Board-certified in Veterinary Oncology in 2014, Dr. Raelene Wouda has dedicated countless hours to volunteer service on ACVIM committees, both specialty-specific and college-wide. Her record of service includes the Residency Training Program Oversight Task Force, the International Relations Committee, the Governance Committee, the Appeals Committee, and the Transformation Task Force, representing not only her specialty and early-career Diplomates, but providing an international Diplomate's perspective as well. Because of her demonstrated passion for and understanding of the ACVIM certification process, Dr. Wouda was appointed to the role of ACVIM Certification Liaison by the Board of Regents, a new and vital role in which Dr. Wouda helped to advise, guide and communicate changes to the ACVIM's examinations to the College at-large. In addition to internal committee work, Dr. Wouda served as the ACVIM representative to the AVMA's Veterinary Specialty Organizations Committee (VSOC), ensuring the ACVIM remains abreast of current issues and best practices in the profession. Through it all, peers report being consistently impressed by Dr. Wouda's dedication, engagement and leadership, making her an exemplary recipient of the William R. Fenner Early Career Award for Outstanding Service.
